SunFlowers, an Electric Garden designed by artists Mags Harries & Lajos Héder, is an environmentally friendly public art installation in Austin, Texas that collects solar energy during the day to light giant flowers at night.
Comprised of fifteen flower-like photovoltaic sculptures, during the day the 30ft (9.1m) flowers provide shade along the pedestrian/bicycle path and at night the SunFlowers glow with blue light. The excess electricity generated from the garden pays for the upkeep of the SunFlowers and any new additions to the project.
Originally designed as a buffer to mask the loading docks at the edge of the Mueller Development from the I-35 highway, the project has become a stunning installation and an important eco monument in Texas.
