E-mail Print

M&M's Solar Project.

Mars, the makers of the popular candy M&M’s, has just installed New Jersey’s largest solar power generation system. The Hackettstown-based candy company installed over 28,000 ground-mounted solar panels on a vacant 18 acre lot, in a bid to create more than 2 megawatts of electricity.

The energy generated with be one-fifth of what the Mars Chocolate North America’s chocolate-making factory needs to operate. The project was created in conjunction with PSEG Solar Sourcem a subsidiary of PSEG and a principal funding partner.

The new M&M’s solar project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 1,000 metric tons, equivalent to removing 190 vehicles from the road each year. Every fifth M&M made at the Hackettstown, New Jersey plant is now made with solar energy.

The Mars solar installation is the eleventh largest solar generation facility in the USA.
