Pope Design, a network of designers, are proposing an interesting option for mobile wind turbines, combining their heavy truck design with renewable energy options. The Mobile Wind Turbine is a heavy transport truck that can hydraulically erect a large wind turbine to generate power to recharge the batteries of the all-electric drive truck and generate power for mobile installations, or provide it back to the grid.

The transport truck also has a back-up diesel generator to provide truck electrical power should there be lack of wind resource. The lightweight glass fiber and thermoplastic tower sections provide stiffness for the wind turbine without undue transport weight.

The truck/wind-turbine combo is proposed for military use, reducing the need to provide diesel to generators on the battlefield or during overseas deployments.
