Greenpeace has taken to the skies to get their message to a wider audience. Their Earth Hot Air Balloon is spreading a climate change message and the first flight was a success. The Greenpeace USA Earth Hot Air Balloon, emblazed with the words - Stop Global Warming. Save the Climate - made an inaugural flight in Alburergue, New Mexico on October 3rd. The flight coincided with New Mexico’s popular Balloon Fiesta.
“The globe balloon is the perfect vehicle to illustrate how the entire world is being impacted by Congress’s leadership failure on global warming,” said Greenpeace field organizer Kristin Wheeler. “While people here in New Mexico and across the country have already taken steps in their own lives to help, by driving less, using more efficient appliances, and changing their light bulbs, Congress refuses to make the big changes needed to solve the problem.”
Individuals around the world are making efforts to reduce their environmental footprint, but politicians are refusing to institute legislative changes that will help mitigate global warming. Both Canada and the USA have refused to address climate change in any significant manner and many environmentalists are hoping with Federal Elections in both countries this year, new governments will be elected.
