We Can Solve It – Al Gore’s climate change action advocacy group - is trying to get ABC News to air a pro-clean energy commercial called Repower America. Their first thwarted attempt at some air time was during the recently aired American presidential debate, but ABC News said no to the advertisement. Although they did not get into any specifics on why they refused, the green blogsphere says it has everything to do with oil and coal advertisers. Doesn’t sound very democratic, does it?
We Can Solve It is running an online petition asking people to write to ABC News and tell them to air their commercial on 20/20 – visit http://www.wecansolveit.org/page/s/ABC to sign the petition. So far, almost 200,000 people have signed.
The We Can Solve It site explains that ‘ABC…refused to run our Repower America ad, even though they run ads from oil companies that mislead the American people about the role fossil fuels play in the climate crisis.’
Eco-Geek website reports, ‘It is absolutely true that America's oil and coal lobbies have consistently blocked legislation and mis-represented facts about global warming to the American people. The travesty was when the oil lobby aired the "carbon is life" advertisement, not when the We Can Solve It campaign tried to set the record straight.’
