Inventor Knut Karlsen has come up with DIY rechargeable batteries with solar cells attached – the SunCat Batteries. The premise is simple and brilliant. Wrapping the batteries in flexible solar cells, the batteries can then be left to ‘bask in the sun like a cat…and slowly recharge”, hence the name.
Knut used older NiMH rechargeable batteries and wrapped the photovoltaic (PV) cells onto the battery. Next he used a conductive silver pen and some flat wires from a broken Canon lens to create the connection to the PV cell.
