Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

E-mail Print

President Obama.

President Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, in a decision that has surprised many. The Nobel Committee, in their unanimous decision, praised Obama "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples."

This prestigious award should strongly reinforce Obama’s efforts to bring about fundamental changes in US foreign policy and help broker peaceful solutions to many of the world’s troubled regions. Although it is unfortunate that President Obama recently declined the opportunity to meet with the Dalai Lama – the ultimate global ambassador of peace.

However a Nobel Peace Prize  should go a long way to helping fight against global climate change as it is expected to bring more conflict to the planet as countries suffer from weather pattern changes, agricultural failures, storms and rising sea levels.

President Obama has been given a big vote of world confidence, and along with it,  even more expectations that Obama and the US will help world peace by also addressing climate change in a meaningful way at the UN Copenhagen Climate Conference this December.
