The need for disaster relief housing is only going to become more widespread as weather extremes are increasingly commonplace due to global warming. Mark A. Bendit, designer for The Millennium-Home Project, has come up with an innovative solution to disaster relief housing with the Folding Sectional Dome.

The intended applications for the Folding Sectional Dome structure include disaster remediation housing, temporary or emergency housing, field hospitals, military outposts and command centres and scientific exploration bases. The Folding Sectional Dome is designed to be easy to transport by helicopter or cargo airlift, flatbed truck or watercraft. The housing unit is made with construction materials that are recyclable and/or recycled, thereby minimizing further environmental impact to an already traumatized area. Their dome design is capable of withstanding winds of up to 250mph, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and snow avalanches
