The US’s Navy Ion Tiger, an unmanned hydrogen fuel cell powered aircraft, set an unofficial world record when it maintained continuous flight for 23 hours and 17 minutes at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The Naval Research Laboratory’s 37lb (16.8kg) Ion Tiger uses hydrogen fuel cells to produce electricity to power the 550-Watt (0.75 hp) fuel cell engine.
Small-unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have the advantage of being virtually undetectable form the ground making them a perfect eco-aircraft for surveillance.
