Move over Mission One, there is a new eco-bike on the block. Lightning Motorcycles recently set a new speed record for the fastest electric bike on the planet when it hit a top speed of 267.776 kph (166.388 mph) during the SCTA World Finals at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
The American electric motorcycle pre-production prototype, driven by Paul Thede from Race Tech, now holds the record for the world’s fastest production electric motorcycle. However, like all records, someone else will soon challenge it.
Lithium ion batteries power the Lightning Motorcycle with a motor taken from a GM EV1 electric car.
