The Minimal City Bicycle may just be the most bare bones bike on the market. Designed for shorter haul trips in the city, jruiter + studio, a Michigan-based design firm, reconfigured the traditional bicycle, trying to use the least amount of material possible.
The bike components include 29" rims, huge big apple tires, a rear hub and single front disc brake.
The designers explain the Minimal City Bicycle as:
The project ended up rethinking what a "frame" meant, getting rid of basic key components, and creating a new type of compact bicycling. Before all of the bike fanatics get all fired up, we know this bike doesn't solve everyone's personal transportation dreams. Performance-wise, the bike is on the slow side, quirky, and fatiguing over longer distances. The positives are easy quick turns, huge power to the rear wheel to go over curbs and other cityscape structures.
