Yog Lightning Ride

The Yog by Arun Thomas.

The Yog personal transport vehicle looks like a whole bunch of fun and one mean ride. Indian designer Arun Thomas proposed the trike design concept, powered by a modified jet engine driving a propeller, and with electrical energy from batteries, as an entry to the Michelin Design Challenge 2010.

The concept vehicle proposes harnessing lightning to recharge the batteries, by creating the right conditions for artificial thunderstorms in an enclosed system. The rubber wheels provide suspension as well as the rolling surface, with elastic rubber wheels wrapped around the wheel hubs and inflated by compressed air. The air gap and magnets within the rubber provide the suspension and the ability to travel over uneven surfaces.

The Yog, derived from yoga, represents a joining of the self with the Divine Universal Spirit and is attained through physical and mental exercise. The sitting position is the Cobra, which maintains an active, alert-position to help steer the Yog – holding on tight might provide the required exercise to achieve oneness. Steering is by braking and skidding through the wheels. The batteries are within the main body and the propeller/engine exhaust is vented through a tailpipe just above the rear wheel.
