The ability to explore the ocean just got a bit easier with the electric powered Personal Submarine from American-based Hammacher Schlemmer. Propelled by two 3hp main thrusters that provide fore, aft, and directional control and two 3hp vertical/translational thrusters, it is steered via the centrally located joystick with independent main and vertical/translational thrusters control, enabling precise positioning for better undersea viewing pleasure.
The 6,600lb (3,000kg), US$2 million (€1.549M) dollar Personal Submarine might be out of most people’s price range but it does come fully equipped with a VHF radio for surface to sea communication, plus a barometer, thermometer, hygrometer, depth gauges, fluxgate and magnetic compasses, mechanical clinometers, pressure gauges, and a GPS receiver. The sub is certified +A1 passenger-carrying manned submersible by the American Bureau of Shipping and can descend to 1000ft (304.8m) with up to 6 hours of operation.
