The PG-Bikes built Black Trail electric bicycle, designed and engineered by UBC, claims to be the lightest, fastest, and most powerful electric bike in the world. The Black Trail is made from carbon fibre, aerospace standard aluminum alloy, magnesium and titanium, weighing in at 19.8kgs (43.7lbs), with special Black Trail 3” x 26” (7.6cm x 66cm) wheels. The bike is 1.896m (6.2ft) long, 0.620m (2ft) wide and 0.982m (3.2) tall.
The top speed is 100kph (62.3mph), with a 30-50kph (18.6-31mph) cruising speed, giving a range of 40-60km (24.9-37.3 miles) at top speed, and 160-200km (99.4-124.3 miles) when cruising. The drive train is a CM48 V hybrid engine giving 1.2 kW (1.6hp) output and 140Nm (88ft.lb) of torque. The battery is a 48V lithium ion 17Ah, good for 2500-5000 charging cycles, with a fast charge to 80% capacity in 30 minutes and fully charged in 2.5hours. The bike also has LED lights and an OLED display showing battery status, engine power and, of course, speed.
Only 667 bikes are being built, and the price is a lofty US$79,000 (€59,500)
