THEKPV Photovoltaic Electric Bike by Terry Hope.

Terry Hope’s advanced hybrid electric solar bike prototype has three handlebar and frame mounted photovoltaic panels, augmented by harvesting kinetic energy that is stored in ultra-capacitors.

Weighing in at only 44lbs (20kgs), and designed to fit inside a large Samsonite suitcase when disassembled, the diminutive THEKPV has a 24V 394Wh battery giving it an 8.1mile (13km range) and an 80% recharge time in only 15 minutes. A 12V 28Wh booster battery and 10.8V capacitor, plus the 12V 50W solar panels and a low cogging torque five-gear 3-phase alternator, completes the electrical charging circuit design.

The electric bike can also be charged directly from the mains, or be completely emissions free by charging from the solar cells.
