The Aeon Project provides a vision of possible future travel using augmented reality inside human transport vehicles. Michaël Harboun, Fabien Chancel, and Akki Reddy Challa were the designers of this concept that won top prize at the Imagina Awards 2011 in the ‘Best Design and Communication’ category.
Using some really cool interactive 3D interfaces, an advanced smart phone type icon menu and applications ranging from travel mode choice through to a Google Earth type information download of your travel route, the Aeon experience looks really immersive. Luckily, there is an auto-pilot option for those moments when you get too immersed in the virtual experience and cannot pay attention to the road.
The travel vehicle is pure fantasy but the virtual interface could be worth having for those future traffic jams.
