Designed by William Brown, the futuristic Lockheed Stratoliner is engineered to fly around the globe without refuelling and having zero emissions. The large wing area provides generous lift with low drag, and a streamlined body contributes to low fuel consumption. The engines are cryogenic hydrogen fueled turbofans, with zero greenhouse gas emissions and no other major pollutants. The engines can also be throttled back to lower thrust settings to help conserve fuel for the long flights.

Brown based his Stratoliner design on the aerodynamic shape of the Bar Tailed Godwit, a bird that holds the world record for the longest non-stop flight.
