A modified 30-year-old Alpina bicycle, called Feats Per Minute, can play records as you pedal, providing you with emissions free music and exercise at the same time. (Ballads need about 60 BPM (beats per minute), disco 120 BPM, and house music 170-300 BPM – so the faster the music the harder you are going to have to pedal.)
Merel Sloother, Liat Azulay and Pieter Frank de Jong modified the bicycle with parts from old vertical record players and a nine volt battery powers the amplifier for the speakers (the bike horn). One of the biggest design hurdles they had to overcome was to ensure the needle stayed in the groove and didn’t bounce out so they changed the bike crank and chain for a smoother pedal action.
