Zero S Electric Motorcycle

Electric motorcycles are getting better every day it seems, and Zero Motorcycles, who have had a success with their off-road electric bike, are going to be launching an on-road supermoto street bike called Zero S.

Launch date is Spring 2009, and the top speed will be around 70mph (112kph). It will have a 60 mile (96km) range from its lithium ion battery pack. The 50lbft torque should be adequate for acceleration in all traffic conditions. There is a single speed transmission so there is no gearshift nor clutch. A (refundable) $1,000 deposit will secure a production machine.

The Zero S Electric Motorcycle has a performance chassis, aerospace grade aluminum mainframe and swing arm for maximized strength, rigidity and low weight. An advanced multi-circuit damped suspension front and rear to absorb bumps, jumps, or wheelies. Low profile street tires on alloy wheels with better road grip, custom brake rotors, a centralized motor and power pack. On board quick charger to plug in and power up anywhere. Ergonomics optimized for comfort and performance.

With the Zero S you will be able to have two-wheel fun at any time, or make your commute to work both silent and cheap. You won’t ever need to stop at a gas station when you can recharge overnight at home. The typical cost of travel will be about $0.01 per mile.
