Obama’s Green Easter Egg Roll

The White House Easter Egg Roll.

Kids will get some healthy living tips served up with their Easter eggs at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Held on April 5, 2010, the theme of this year’s event “Ready, Set, Go” is inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign, which is designed to reduce obesity in young people and promote healthy eating habits.

Rather than using chocolate or real eggs, the White House has opted for environmentally friendly FSC-certified hardwood eggs dyed with vegetable based eggs featuring the signatures of the American President and First Lady.

The White House Easter Egg Roll attracts about 20,000 people each year and invitations are issued via an online lottery.

I like Obama and most of what he seems to be trying to do, but isn't carving eggs out of wood quite a bit more expensive than dying eggs? And I don't see anything wrong with letting a child eat a little candy once or twice a year either. Besides with using the vegetable dyes, how much chance is there that the wooden egg's paint job will last long enough for it to become a keepsake?

This is stupid. Go Obama. Be an idiot at Easter just like the rest of the year.
