The Flemish Association of Undertakers has come up with an environmentally friendly alternative to cremation and burial – flush corpses down the toilet. Using a caustic solution, the Belgian undertakers are advocating for the right to dissolve human remains via chemical hydrolysis or resomation, then taking the remaining liquid plus mineral mush and disposing of it in the toilet.
Unlike traditional cremation, which emits greenhouse gases, and land burial, which wastes valuable land, hydrolysis has a much lower environmental impact.
The carbon neutral solution is currently under review by the European Commission with the authorities exploring the possible effects of the liquid burials on sewage systems. According to the Telegraph, six states in America – Maine, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Oregon, and Maryland have recently passed legislation that allow the process to be used.

CycledLife's CycledBurial process was designed to protect the living from prions, viruses, and bacteria. It transforms unsterile remains into hygienic remains. It consumes a tenth the fossil fuel compared with a cremation. It does not require the dedication of finite land resources. Our systems offer the most practical and sustainable means of dealing with the inevitable for the 6.8 billion people on the planet.
