With woodland burials, green cremation, and various coffins made from recycled or sustainable materials becoming more popular, Barcelona-based designer Gerard Moline has come up with another way to ensure a low-impact, green goodbye for loved ones.

The biodegradable BIOS urn is made from natural plant materials and, with the addition of seeds, is designed to house the ashes of the dearly departed. The BIOS urn is then planted in the ground, with the seeds eventually germinating into trees, flowers or other favourite plants.

“The BIOS urn allows you to transform the usual burial ritual into a natural and harmonious lifecycle. Cemeteries can become forests,” explains the designers’ website.
