Tis' the season to talk gingerbread houses and other sugary holiday pursuits, though not all gingerbread dwellings are created equal – even when they are created by well-known Vancouver-based architects and designers.
The Creative Room’s Gingerbread Competition + Charity Auction 2009 features a wide range of gingerbread building designs and techniques – ranging from a rendition of the infamous Gas Town in Vancouver to the hilarious mgb Ginger Tower 062, designed to address suburban gingerbread sprawl.
However, our favorite, hands down, is the Earthship Lollipop from Eastside Design & Solus Decor – the world's first LEAD™ (Leadership in Edible Architectural Design) Platinum residence. Using the "Garbage Warrior" as inspiration, the Lollipop is a highly sustainable gingerbread home featuring “…rammed-icing English Mint walls with high cocoa-mass qualities to mitigate sweet-loss…” The eco-gingerbread house also features organic (sugar glass) solar panels and a windmill for supplementary energy.
