The PaperFlops.

Flip-flops made from recyclable materials will go a long way to reducing the veritable sea of plastic summer shoes that exist on the planet.

The PaperFlops.

Although, around the globe, innovative artists have found an abundance of interesting reuses for the ubiquitous plastic footwear – ranging from earrings to enormous sculptures, the plaque of plastic needs to be halted as there are very few options for actually recycling the plastic and/or foam shoes.

Enter the fabulous PaperFlops - made as the name suggests from recycled newspapers with the addition of repurposed coconut shells, palm tree roots and recycled rubber. Each pair of sustainable flip-flops uses an estimated 1kg (2.2lb) of paper to make. Being made from paper, the flip-flops will decompose in the ocean, and not leave behind deadly plastic that kills ocean creatures.

The PaperFlops.

The PaperFlops project is currently seeking funding on the European version of Kickstarter (known as Ulule), with the goal of utilizing the project as a catalyst to create jobs for the disadvantaged in Yogjakarta, Indonesia.

The PaperFlops sell for €26 (US$37).
