The Waste-Less Reusable Bag

E-mail Print

Each year an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. Plastic bags are made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource. It takes more than 1000 years for one plastic bag to break down in the landfill. Although reusable bags are not going to save the world, they can definitely eliminate one extremely wasteful habit –the single use carrier bag.

Enter the Waste-Less Reusable Shopping Bag System, which are made from polyester (not the most sustainable choice) but they are very strong and lightweight, which does allow the bags to roll up into a compact shape.

We gave these bags a try and found them a bit more convenient to use than our regular organic cotton bags, primarily because the Waste-Less bags fold up small and easily fit into a pocket or purse, the bags are a good size for a normal grocery shopping trip and do not get as dirty as our cotton bags. We found them to be comfortable to carry up to about 20lbs of groceries.

At only $9.99 for a pouch of 3, the Waste-Less System is an affordable option for reusable bags. We recommend buying a couple extra to keep in your bicycle knapsack, purse or in the car.

The downside is this bag is made in China and travels an unnecessarily long distance to get to your doorstep.

Our verdict is that these bags are a good idea, but they could be a heck of a lot greener if sourced through local manufacturers.
