The popular Dr. Seuss book The Lorax is going to be made into a 3D animated feature film. The Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment venture will be co-directed by Chris Renaud, Cinco Paul and Daurio, with Paul and Daurio writing the script reports Variety.
The Lorax remains a popular book with several generations of environmentalists. Published in 1971, the book tells the tale of the Lorax (a strange mossy creature) that speaks for the trees against the greedy, environment destroying Once-ler. The Once-ler annihilates everything in the area until the birds and other creatures are forced to leave the forest. The Lorax has long been considered a cautionary tale of what may come to pass if logging and other earth related destruction is allowed to continue unchecked.
However, The Lorax has had its fair share of controversy, including bans from some school districts, outcry from logging groups and even the removal of certain lines in the book.
The Lorax 3D is scheduled for release on Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2 in 2012. Theodor Seuss Geisel died on September 24, 1991.
