Just in time for back to school, a new free online game called “My Bento (My Lunchbox)” from Little Studios, Inc., in Japan, helps kids understand the carbon footprint of their food choices. The simple to use game lets kids (and adults) choose various food items for their lunchbox.
Once the items are decided, the game tabulates the cost, calories and amount of space needed to plant trees to offset the carbon emissions generated from the meal. The game also features interesting interactive facts including the carbon journey of food items to get from overseas’ farms to local plates.
“The game raises children’s awareness towards environmental issues through creating their own lunch box online, which is a daily and familiar activity,” explains Haruko Gomi from Little Studios, Inc.
