Loss of habitat remains the number one challenge facing animals around the world. From Japanese artist Masahiro Minami, creator of the Bears on Melting Ice project, comes Red Animal Crayons, children’s crayons in the shape of soon to be extinct animals in Japan.

The crayons were created to raise awareness about the numerous animal species facing extinction in Japan due to loss of habitat from human encroachment.

“While the shapes of these animals get smaller as they are used on paper, the pictures remain on the paper,” explains the artist. “They help people realize these animals are becoming extinct. Let’s use these crayons to convey this fact to our children.”
