“On average, our kids will be excited about a new toy for maybe three weeks and then it’s onto the next thing,” says company founder Carlos Algarin. “I kept thinking about how wasteful it was with all of the packaging and that constant consumption wasn’t a lesson I wanted to teach my kids,” he says. With a mission to act as role models for their own kids, Carlos and his wife, Helen, set out to find an alternative way to provide their children with toys but without continuing the buy and dispose cycle. The result is rentAtoy.
At rentAtoy, kids can choose from a range of toys, everything from puzzles, pretend play toys, language learning DVDs, musical instruments, baby toys, eco-friendly toys to electronics. Toys are used for a month and then returned and replaced with new toys.
