Reclaimed Tsunami Furniture

The 2004 Indonesian tsunami destroyed numerous boats and buildings and one company is working with local artisans to provide income after the tragedy.

Beachbums Imports in Vancouver, Canada, is offering carbon-neutral, handmade furniture, constructed from the reclaimed teak boats and buildings destroyed in the environmental disaster.

“This furniture represents the resourcefulness and artistry of people struggling to recover from a devastating tragedy,” explains Maury Mason from Beachbums Imports.

To keep the furniture as green as possible, Beachbums Imports has teamed up with Earth Day Canada to guarantee the teak furniture is carbon neutral by ensuring all transportation costs are offset through the CO2D Carbon Offset Delivery.

Furniture buyers must commit to offset their carbon transport debt on orders shipped more than 50km from the Vancouver Port of Entry.

“Customers not only receive beautifully restored furniture and support victims of the 2004 tsunami, but they learn how easy it is to reduce their energy and water use, waste production, and greenhouse gas emissions everyday,” said Jed Goldberg, President of Earth Day Canada.
