Recycled E-Waste Lamps

Electronic waste is a growing global problem and one talented Chilean artist has come up with a novel solution to the problem – recycle the discarded e-waste into stunning lamps.

N+EW Lights (No More Electronic Waste) are created by “rotomolding”, a process where low-density plastic is mixed together with crushed electronic waste. Smelted recycled aluminum beer and drink cans are used for the N+EW Light’s base.

“In Chile, and several countries of Latin America, policies on recycling and reuse of non biodegradable materials aren't habit nor law,” explains N+EW Light designer Rodrigo Alonso Schramm.

Plastic is challenging to recycle, explains the artist, due to density variety, the huge volume consumed, low reclamation price and the limited possibility of reusing some plastic types (as some plastics lose their molecular bonding capability, and sooner or later, end up as trash).

“Therefore it is absolutely necessary to search for other uses and possible solutions,” explains Alonso Schramm. “This creation is a beautiful object due to its extreme honesty and perfect randomness.”
