The annual Chair Affair competition attracted architecture and package design students from 49 colleges and universities across the USA .Chair design submissions had to be made of corrugated board and glue, and were required to elevate a user of an undetermined size off the ground comfortably for an extended period of time.
The designs were judged by celebrity judge Vern Yip (from TLC's Trading Spaces, HGTV's Deserving Design, and Design Star fame), on a criteria of comprehendible design, originality, how ergonomically comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and the cleverness of craft and details.
The International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF) and the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Chair Affair student competition for architecture students was developed to introduce students to structural design careers in the corrugated packaging and display industry. The top entries win cash prizes.
