Montreal sculptors Carol Schnaiberg and Celina Segal have created a unique line of vases and vessels with a carbon neutral footprint. Looking a bit like bodily organs, these brightly colored vases are made from recycled newspaper and PET plastic, two of the most prolific waste products in North American society.
“After working with a variety of sculpture materials, many of them toxic, we chose a better, greener approach — a way to combine our need to create with our philosophy of reuse, recycle and reinvent,” explain the artists of their VAAS line.
Each handmade vase elevates what is traditionally deemed as waste into works of art.
“The subtle layers of iridescent glazes denote nature while at the same time speaking to avant-garde sensibility. On the practical side, they even hold water,” explain the artists.
