Even though bottled water popularity seems to be waning in favor of traditional tap water, the race is still on to bottle the world’s most exotic waters. DMZ 2km, from the Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co., is the latest water craze and features water bottled from an underground spring in the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea.
Considered to be a pristine habitat in which, for more than 50 years, the 245km (152 mile) long DMZ zone between North and South Korea has been uninhabited by humans and so has given rise to a flourishing abundance of flora, mammals and birds.
“We decided on water from the DMZ because it’s different and the environment there is untouched, so many people think it’s clean,” Lee Sang-hyo, spokesman for the Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co., explained in a Guardian UK interview. “Getting the water is not dangerous at all. We worked it all out with the military.”
