Communal Female Urinals

E-mail Print

The Pollee Urinals from UiWE.

Copenhagen design studio UiWE have created communal Pollee urinals that are specifically for women. The four-women capacity urinals had their first outing at the Roskilde Festival, Denmark, with screens providing some semblance of privacy.

Three different prototypes were tested - Pollee Shy, Pollee Topless and Pollee Naked. The urinal user squats, rather than stands (like a man’s urinal), using screen mounted handles to balance.

The UiWE design team wanted an attractive public urination station that women would feel comfortable and safe using. The Pollee is also touch-free so there is less mess and likelihood of passing along any toilet-related unpleasantries.

From the trials and based on responses from female users, UiWE plan on making an improved and larger version for 2012, but that are still able to be easily erected in an open space and be safe to use.
