A blood red moon will be visible in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Indian subcontinent and Australia on the early morning of June 16th, before the sun rises. There is an alignment between the Sun, Moon and Earth, providing one of the darkest eclipses of the moon ever recorded, with a truly blood red Moon due to make an appearance. Unfortunately, we won't be able to see it in the Northern Hemisphere.
Though more usually a burnt orange hue, this year’s Moon color will be further enhanced by airborne ash from the recent Icelandic and Chilean volcanic eruptions. Australia will get a great view as the Moon moves into Earth’s shadow at 4.23am Eastern Standard Time, with a total eclipse one hour later.
