Millions of Disney Trees

Disney will plant more than 2.7 million trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, one of the planet’s most endangered rainforests. The Disney Studio recently announced that it has teamed up with The Nature Conservancy to oversee the planning of the trees. Walt Disney Studios said it would plant a tree for every moviegoer who saw their Earth movie during its first week of release.

The motion picture grossed $16.1 million at the box office during week one and broke an opening day record as well as an opening weekend record for a nature documentary.

Through its campaign to Plant a Billion Trees, The Nature Conservancy and its local partners, are working to reforest 2.5 million acres of land and re-connect more than 12 million acres of trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.  Currently only 7 % of the original Atlantic Forest remains in well-preserved but isolated fragments, yet it still supports more than 200 bird species and 60% of Brazil's endangered species while supplying drinking water to 120million people. The extra trees should help plants and animals recolonize the devastated rainforest.
