Introducing Bhopal Water

The Yes Men, a group of political tricksters, have set their sights on Dow Chemical. To ‘commemorate’ the fact that Dow Chemical (who bought Union Carbide) has refused to clean up one of the world’s worst environmental catastrophes– the deadly gas leak at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India – the Yes Men have launched a new bottled drink Bhopal Water.

“The unique qualities of our water come from 25 years of slow-leaching toxins at the site of the world's largest industrial accident,” explains the B’Eau Pal Water website.

In December 1984, at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, 27 tons of the deadly gas methyl isocyanate leaked into Bhopal. Half a million people were exposed to the gas and 20,000 have died to date as a result of their exposure. More than 120,000 people still suffer from ailments caused by the accident and the subsequent pollution at the plant. The Union Carbide plant has not been cleaned up and remains a toxic waste site.
