Multipurpose Watertower Skyscrapers are the focus of a new design proposal for Sudan from Poland-based H3AR Architect and Design. Created for eVolo’s 2010 Skyscraper Competition, the Watertower Skyscrapers are designed to help mitigate the shortage of water in Darfur and the resulting political unrest.

In 2007, Boston University scientists discovered the world’s tenth largest ancient lake in Darfur which is now largely desert, though it has been postulated that some of the water could still be in underground aquifers. The Watertower Skyscraper concept design focuses on managing and distributing much-needed water and, hopefully, helping to resolve the bloody conflict and suffering in the parched region.

The Watertower Skyscrapers are designed to be constructed from locally sourced materials including sun-baked bricks, as well as providing space for water treatment plants, a hospital, a school and food storage areas.
