Look out Jennifer Aniston, just in time for World Water Day (March 22nd), The Story of Stuff’s Annie Leonard has released a new video about the reality of bottled water. Jennifer Aniston remains the world’s most famous bottled water shuckster, with a major role in promoting SmartWater to starstruck Americans.

In a new seven minute video, Leonard demonstrates how bottled water is less regulated than tap water, costs more than 2000x the price of tap water, with Americans buying more than half a billion bottles of water every week – enough to circle the globe more than five times.

Produced in conjunction with Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group, Food & Water Watch, Polaris Institute and Pacific Institute, Leonard explains how the bottled water industry created manufactured demand for bottled water to the point where enough oil to fuel a million cars was being used each year to manufacture plastic bottles. More than 80% end up in landfills and the rest end up being incinerated while releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere.

However, bottled water consumers are starting to wake up.

"Bottled water usage is in decline in the United States for the first time in three decades, thanks in part to the hard work of our partners on this film. We hope this film helps to drive the final nail in this huge rip off," explains Leonard.
