People cannot live without water, yet almost 900 million people worldwide lack access to clean drinking water. In a bid to raise more awareness about the importance of water during the annual World Water Week (August 21-27, 2011), artists from around the globe contributed art interpreting the important message of “Water is Life”.
Sponsored by Duravit, the competition saw entries from more than 5,000 artists from 83 countries using a variety of methods, materials and motifs to express their rendition of the message. Pawel Dadok from Poland won first place, Jian Jie from China won second place and third place was tied between Austria’s Peter Blasl and China’s Yanyan Chen.
Reproductions of the posters are available for purchase online. The winning posters are also on display at Duravit's headquarters in the Black Forest of Germany, until September 10th, 2011.
