The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is pulling no punches in their recently opened Climate Change: The Threat to Life and a New Energy Future Exhibit running October 18, 2008 to August 12, 2009. At the AMNH exhibit they unequivocally state that the earth’s climate is changing, global temperatures are rising, weather patterns are shifting, human societies are facing the consequences, plant and animal species are feeling the impact; and that humans are causing it.
The Climate Change Exhibit features an overview of what climate change is, how it is affecting the world today and how we can make a difference in our lives to mitigate the changes. There are also exhibits on the changing atmosphere, ice, oceans, and lands; and an exhibit of clean energy possibilities for meeting the world’s demand for energy.
Their exhibit has the possibility of reaching an enormous audience as each year nearly four million people visit the AMNH museum with an estimated 500,000 children visiting the museum annually through school or camp group visits.
The Climate Change Exhibit will remain at the Museum until August 16, 2009, when it will begin an international tour. Current scheduled stops include Junta de Castilla y León, Spain (January 31, 2009, to June 21, 2009), Natural History Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen (October 5, 2009, to February 28, 2010), Papalote Museo del Niño, Mexico City, Mexico (October 2009 to March 2010), The Field Museum, Chicago (July 1 to November 28, 2010), The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (July 23, 2010, to January 1, 2012), Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, United Arab Emirates (November 21, 2010, to April 10, 2011), and the Saint Louis Science Center (January 8 to June 4, 2011).
