State Key Laboratories for AgroBiotechnology at China Agricultural University have genetically engineered a herd of cows to produce milk with the same characteristics as human breast milk. The hybrid milk is expected to be available within the next two years.
According to a recent China Daily News' article, the genetically engineered milk will include the two nutrients not available in goat or cow milk, but will have a “stronger taste than normal human milk”.
The focus of the project is to bring milk to the mass market so everyone can cheaply access the human-milk like products.
