Labels are deceiving. This is perhaps nowhere more so than in the food industry. Farm Sanctuary is asking for help in reaching their goal of 10,000 signatures in their Truth Behind the Label Campaign.
The campaign focuses on getting the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to change their “naturally raised” label as there is nothing natural about it, claims the Farm Sanctuary, the USA’s leading farm animal protection organization.
The USDA allows companies to include a “naturally raised” label on meat and meat products that come from factory farms.
“Unfortunately, many people believe that a "naturally raised" label implies animals have access to sunshine, fresh air, freedom of movement and the ability to perform natural behaviors,” explains Farm Sanctuary. “These labels mislead the public and exploits consumer trust in advertising and packaging claims, and in government regulation of agriculture.”
Currently, the organization has 9,556 signatures and is 96% of the way to their 10,000-signature target.
