The Parasite Farm, designed by Nils Ferber in cooperation with Charlotte Dieckmann, is a system to create vermi-compost and beneficial plant nutrient cycle situated in your home (or maybe office) bookshelves.

As more people become urbanites, and the land under cultivation drops, more and more people are seeking ways to grow vegetables at home, so Ferber designed his composting system to use food scraps, a custom designed chopping board, kitchen composting bin and planters, for budding home gardeners and recyclers.

The food scraps are swept into the food composter bin directly off the chopping board, where healthy composting fauna digest the scraps, leaving behind a composted earth full of plant nutrients. The water from the process is also captured and fed back to the plants.

There are systems to catch flies in the composting bin and the planters come with their own lighting system. Not only does the system promise fresh herbs and vegetables but it also reduces landfill waste, and methane GHG emissions.
