Michelle Obama’s White House South Lawn honey bees and vegetable garden have started to produce amazing amounts of honey, 225.5lbs (102.3kgs) in fact. The White House garden yielded almost a ton of food too, probably helped by the pollination done by the bees as they collected the honey. A great advert for some home vegetable growing and some amateur apiculture.

White House beekeeper, Charlie Brandts, explained to the U.S. News that 60lbs (5 gallons, 27kgs) of honey is more than normal for amateur home production. Initially, the bees produced 134lbs, then 183lbs and now 225.5lbs.
The White House have used the honey as gifts for friends, family, and famous visitors and dignitaries. Their chefs use the honey in place of sugar, to sweeten food and drink, including cookies, salad dressing, and beer. The White House Honey Ale has been a particularly popular item with Obama.
