When Fayett Plumb gave his grandson the keys to his 86’ Dodge pickup, he wasn’t expecting the old half-ton to come back as a farm. Using green-roof technology, lightweight soil and heirloom seeds, American filmmakers Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis (of King Corn and Greening of Southie fame) have turned grandpa’s old truck into a traveling twelve-share Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project farm.
The Truck Farm not only grows the produce, including arugula, tomatoes, jalapeños and basil, but also delivers the fresh grown goods door to door.
The Truck Farm Project documentary answers the question of “How do you grow food when you don’t have any land?” The film explores the growing world of urban food production, from the Farm Truck to the balcony garden of Food Politics' author Marion Nestle, to the 6,000 square foot rooftop farm of Brooklyn’s Ben Flanner.
The film will be out in January 2010.
