Häagen-Dazs ice-cream is putting bees in the spotlight in their campaign Häagen-Dazs loves Honey Bees, which also features a tie-in ice-cream product - Vanilla Honey Bee.
The international ice-cream manufacturer is supporting efforts to find out what can be done about the global phenomena affecting honeybees - Colony Collapse Disorder. Over the last three winters, more than one in three honeybee colonies in the U.S. have died; a phenomenon scientists have named Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD.
Honeybee pollination is necessary to produce one-third of all the natural foods we eat; honeybees play a critical role in ensuring we have enough food.
The Häagen-Dazs loves Honey Bees campaign, started in 2009, fails to mention the role pesticides and/or genetically modified crops may play in Colony Collapse Disorder. Currently, Häagen-Dazs does not use organic ingredients in their products. Switching to organic ingredients would probably do more for the honeybees than selling Vanilla Honey Bee ice cream.

And what role is that? Are there any scientific studies that display a link between these and CCD, or is that simply idle speculation purposefully left vague?
