The Spherical Composter

E-mail Print

There seems to be no end of funky & functional composters hitting the market – all designed to make composting as easy as possible. The good-looking Canadian BluePlanetSMART all season composter’s round shape makes it more visually appealing and also has a surface/volume ratio that is smaller than the other more commonly shaped composters.

The spherical shape also has the added benefit of being designed to reduce the impact of heat loss on the total compost generated, resulting in fasting decomposition. The round shape also helps when transporting the finished compost around the garden. When the compost is ready, remove the tumbler from the base and roll it to where you want to spread the compost, remove the door and shake the compost out.

For optimum results the tumbler should be rotated three to four times a week for greater aeration and the compost should be ready to add to the garden in seven to ten weeks.

BluePlanetSMART estimates that they can cut the volume of household garbage bags by more than a third.
