The 86-minute documentary highlights the reality of union busting at Coca-Cola bottling plants in Colombia, Guatemala and Turkey.
In Colombia alone, an estimated 470 unionists have been assassinated since 2002, usually by paramilitaries hired by private companies intent on destroying any attempts to create unions. Colombia is the trade union murder capital of the world and murder, kidnapping and torture are all part of the fate of unionists who attempt to obtain basic rights for workers at Coca-Cola bottling plants.
Filmmakers German Gutierrez and Carmen Garcia follow American labor rights lawyers Daniel Kovalik (United Steel Workers of America in Pittsburgh) and Terry Collingsworth (International Labor Rights Fund) as they attempt to hold the giant U.S. multinational beverage company accountable in a mammoth legal and human rights battle. The tenacious lawyers file a lawsuit against Coca-Cola for murder, abduction and torture committed in Colombia and Guatemala.
After five year of haggling with the company for compensation for the union workers, in conjunction with an international Killer Coke Campaign organized by American activist Ray Rogers, the Coca-Cola Company offers a settlement.
